Monday 16th March

Today i finished my audience questionnaire so i can now give it out and get results back.
For my audience research we have to do a focus group. I researched into this and found out exactlt what it was. ( a meeting with a group of people to discuss their attitude towards the product or idea)
Next i need to plan who im going to include in my focus group, where i will do it and when, considering this needs to be completed by friday!

Friday 13th March

I started doing my audience research. Firstly i researched physcographic and demographic information.


Psychographic Information


 Classifying customers by their attitudes and values.

Psychographic variables are any attributes, relating to personality, values, attitudes, interests or lifestyles

 Once knowing this advertisers can make a psychographic profile, which are used in the market segmentation, this helps them grab the audiences attention

 Analysis of consumer lifestyle to create a detailed customer profile. Market researchers conduct psychographic research by asking consumers to agree disagree with activities, interests, opinions statements. Results of this exercise are combined with geographic and demographic characteristics to develop a more ‘lifelike’ portrait of the targeted consumer segment.




Demographic Information…



 Research into race, disabilities, age, income, mobility, educational attainment, home ownership, employment status and even location.

 The information is used in economic and marketing research.

 Marketers typically combine several variables to define a demographic profile. A demographic profile provides enough information about the member of the group to create a mental picture.

 The four types demographics in marketing are age, gender, race and income level.


This information is important to know as i know what information i need, to gain my audience. I can use research to find out their common interests, personalities and lifestyles as well as their gender race etc. From research i can create a picture of a typical member of my audience.


I then started making a questionnaire so i can ask my audience and find out what will work best when making my advertisements. I will ask students in year 11 who are going to sixth form next year and i will also ask sixth form students as they can say what their opinions on sixth form advertisements and what worked well for them.

Thursday 12th March

we started to research on what advertisements are out there for sixth form and colleges. I phoned up some colleges(Bournville and Solihull) to get leaflets and information sent to me so i could see the types of leaflets they have and see what works well and compare them to others. This helps so i can have an idea of the types of advertisements they use for colleges/sixth form.

Monday 9th March

I have finished the research on the history of advertising, BARB and ASA. I also did research into each type of advertising including radio, television, Internet, magazine, newspaper and poster.
I started to analyse different forms of advertising. I analysed 3 television adverts, 3 radio adverts, 3 poster adverts and 3 Internet adverts. This was took quite long especially the t.v and radio as i had to watch/listen to them many times and try to analyse them in as much detail as possible.

It was important to analyse different types of advertisements so i could see the typical codes & conventions for each type, which would help me later on when producing my products.
I mindmapped the codes & conventions for each type of advertisment so i could see clearly what to include in each type.

Wednesday 4th March

We then started doing some research on advertising. I needed to do research on BARB, ASA and the history of advertising. I did this research on the Internet and it took quite a while as i had to read through a lot and put it into my own words.

It is important to know the rules & regulations of advertising as when i produce my own products i need to know what is appropriate and the things i should consider while making them.

Monday 2nd March

Today we had our meeting with our client! It went well and only lasted about 5 minutes. I asked all the questions that i had prepared and wanted to know so all my questions were answered clearly and i had a better understanding of the commision!

We then started to mindmap some initial ideas on the types of advertising we were going to use. I included radio, dvd, interent,poster and leaflet and wrote some key feautures which i think should be included.

Friday 27th February

Today we carried on with doing some research on other sixth form/college adverts. This is useful as we can see whats out there and what is succesful.
We also started thinking about what questions we were going to ask our client in the meeting we have with him on monday so we knew what we what questions we wanted to ask in order to get the answers so we knew exatctly what the client is looking for.


Lastly i mind mapped some of my initial ideas of commission, to get an idea of how we i am going to advertise. It is useful to have initial ideas to start off with just to get a structure and then later on these ideas can be explanded into more detail.
