Sunday

Wenesday 22nd July

Today is the deadline!!!!

I stuck the last few bits in my portfolio and checked i had everything i needed and made sure my final products were in my portfolio and accessible, for example i burned my radio advert on a disk which i put in my portfolio. Everything was then completed and i was happy i had met the deadline and was satisfied which my completed work.

This project was not an easy project to do but i think i have benefited from it a lot and it has shown me how to completed a commission.

Final Products

POSTER:

Tuesday 21st July

I wrote my self evaluation. I included how all the stages of the process of commission went and the final result I wrote it in as much detail as i could!

I then wrote a summary and explained how commissions might further a career in the creative and media sectors and how i would go about getting more clients.

Monday 20th July

I had my final meeting today with my client and it went well!! He liked my final products and he sent me an email of his feedback after the meeting. He said that overall it was a good response to the commission brief. My website recieved the best feedback and there were no suggestions for improvement.

Friday 10th July

I arranged a meeting with my client for the 20th July to show him my final products. In the meantime i will be working on my portfolio making sure everything i need is in there and making sure i explain what i am doing.

Wednesday 8th July

I wrote an account of the process of making the products. I explained the order of what i did, why i did things and how i did them

I then created a health and safety sheet showing i stuck to health and safety regulations throughout the production process.

Monday 6th July

I have been working on my portfolio making sure i have evrything to put in so that i dont leave it till last minute! I will continue working on this as i go along.

Wednesday 1st june

I analysed my results and made graphs and a summary of the feedback.
From my audience questionnaire, most people thought that the poster was effective and unique and good use of colours and information. The most frequent improvement idea was for having a colour in the background . For my radio advert, 100% of the audience thought the music worked well. The majority said that it makes them want to listen to the advert. Most of the audience said that the information i used was relevant however they thought that there was a bit too much information, making the advert a too long.
My website received the best feedback and the audience thought it was attractive and professional They thought the use of colours layout and information as good and the website was easy to navigate.
The audience all thought that as a multi-media package to advertise the sixth form my products worked well, although some being more effective than others such as the website and poster compared to the radio.
Overall i received good feedback and the audience seemed to think the website was the most successful product.

Monday 29th June

I completed my radio advert. I felt like this was the weakest product i had made and didnt think it worked aswell as the others.

I had now finished my 3 products so before i showed my client i wanted to get some audience feedback first. I produced a questinnaire asking questions on all 3 of my products.

Friday 26th June

I am now working on producing my radio advert. This was not as hard as the other products to make but i struggled on making it sound professional. I got the people to read my script and edited all the clips together. I added the music making sure i adjust the volume when needed. I also created the jingle using people to say the slogan. I mainly stuck to my script however i had to cut some parts out as it was too long.

Wednesday 24th June

I added my slideshows onto my website and these took quite long to make as i had to select lots of suitable images together and make the slideshow on a website i found for making them. I think they make the website more lively and work well for the audience. I checked everthing worked on my website and then i was finally finished!

Monday 22nd june

I have now nearly finished my website. I have created each page putting the information and images on and using the same theme and colours throughout the website. I made the buttons link to the pages correctly so it is easy for the audience to navigate.
Lastly as i did not make a video clip for my website due to lack of time, so i decide to make some slide shows so the audience can get a taste of what the sixth form is like.

Wednesday 17th June

I chose a layout according to my draft however this layout didnt look as good as i had expected on the real product so i chose a more suitable one. I used a light creamy background and used the blue and purple colours linking to the logo and school colours. These colours looked more professional and suited the target audience well. I added an introduction to the homepage of my website, eventhough i did not plan to after reesearching other sixth form and college websites they all included an introduction. I added the images on and it was difficult getting some of them positioned in the right place. I had difficulties linking the images to other pages however i managed to do this succesfully after lots of patience!

Tuesday 16th June

I decided the next product i was going to create was my website as this was quite hard and would take a while to do. I started to make my website on the website i had chosen to make it on. However i was having problems with it and couldnt do some of the stuff i wanted to do and this limited what i could do on my website. I then researched into more website making sites and found a much better one; www.350.com. This website was much easier to use and allowed me to do much more.
I started on the front page first. Firstly i created a banner on photoshop which included the title, logo, images and slogan. i would use this at the top of each page. The banner was difficult to make and as i hadnt planned to do one i had to improvise and choose colours which would work.

Monday 15th June

After working a couple of hours each night i finally finished my poster! I added the title, slogan and school information in the spiral. This was difficult as the writing had to curve in the way of the spiral. I also changed some of the positioning of the writing then in my draft. I also didn't add as much images and writing as i had planned because it would have been too crowded and confusing. I also put the logo in the middle of the spiral as i thought this was an important feature so it should be more noticeable.
In my draft i had planned to have a black background, however when doing this on my final product it didn't look right, therefore i used a white background as the everything stood out well against it.

We did some audience feedback and looked at each others posters and gave positive and negative feedback. Overall my feedback was very good and there were a few suggestions on how to improve it. One of the negative point of my poster was that the background was a bit plain and needed some colour. Someone suggested a border round the page. I added this onto my poster and found it completed the poster and made it look a lot better and more professional.
So the audience feedback helped a lot!

Wednesday 10th June

I started to add all the pictures inside of the spiral. This was also very difficult and i had to use a special photoshop programme to do this. I had to cut the images perfectly so they fit together and in the spiral. This took a lot of time and patience!

Monday 8th June

I am back from study leave and now i will start producing my final products. I am starting with my poster. It was hard approaching my poster as although i knew it wouldn't be very easy to produce it was harder than i thought! It was difficult to make the spiral and in the end find the nest solution was making the dimensions on exel which then produced a spiral which i could use on my poster.

Friday 8th May

My drafts for each product are now all completed. When we come back to sixth form from study leave i will then start to produce my final products.

Wednesday 29th April

I started working on my website drafts. This took the longest to produce as had to design every page of the website and include all the information and images on each page. I also planned to include a small video clip on my website so i had to story board this.

Monday 27th

I completed my poster draft and started working on my radio advert. I produced a script and included the song i was using. I also planned my jingle and decided the different people that will say each part of the slogan. It was hard to write the script as i didn't want to include to much information, but i wanted to include enough.

Friday 24th April

I began to start designing the draft for my poster. I had chosen to do the spiral design as the client agreed this was the best idea and it was different to basic poster designs. I made the draft by hand and included all the colours and features i wanted on my poster.

Wednesday 22nd April

I had my meeting with my client today and it went very well. I showed him my different ideas and he seemed to be pleased with them and was clear on the ideas he liked best. I made some notes on the meeting and asked some questions which i wanted to find out.
For my poster, my client preferred the spiral design as he said it was more unique and thought would work well in the message i was trying to convey.
My client liked the idea of the website with a lack background as it was simple but effective.
He also liked my radio advert ideas and thought my ideas for the music as good and i should experiment with these. He also thought the information and the style i was going to use was relevant.

After getting good and clear feedback, i was ready to start my drafts.

Friday 17th April

I completed my proposal for my client. I emailed him to arrange a meeting with him for next wednesday.

Wednesday 8th April

I carried on working on my proposal today and worked on designing my different poster ideas. This was difficult to do as i was trying to come up with unique ideas that would interest the audience. I came up woth a spiral design which seemed like a good idea however i was aware that this may be difficult to produce as a final product.

Friday

Monday 6th April

I chose my final forms of advertisements i was going to produce; Radio, poster and website.

I created a proposal for my client to show him my ideas.

I included my information on the budgeting i had researched and the best budgets i found which i would use for my radio, poster and website.

In my proposal I showed my initial ideas for each product. I included a few different poster and website ideas so my client could chose which he liked best and would work well. I explained what i was doing in my radio advert, how long it will be, music i was planning on using and other features i wanted to include.
My proposal was quite detailed so the client had enough information.

Friday 3rd april

I started my research on budgeting. This research was important as when using any form of marketing to advertise you need to consider your budget. Budgeting can be very expensive particularly television advertising. I researched budgeting for posters and leaflets. I found the the best budget for posters at alocalprinter.com which costs £105 to print 500 leaflets.
I researched budgeting for radio adverts and phoned two different radio stations: Galaxy and BRMB. They both said that on average a 30 second radio advert would range between £500 - 800 depending on what time of day the advert was played at and how often it is played.
I also researched television advertising and found different costs for different times and channels.
I then researched sites to make a website on and i found a few different ones which did not charge . I chose webs.com as after looking at the different sites this seemed the most efficient and easiest to use. I researched television, radio, poster, and website as these are the forms of advertisements i was looking to produce.

Wednesday 1st April

I created an audience profile from my audience research to show a typical target audience for my commission.
I also started working on a presentation which we had to pitch to the rest of the group. The presentation included Psychographic and demographic information, Audience theories such as the hypodermic needle theory and uses of gratifications theory. I also included the different forms of advertising and what was the most popular and successful. I included a bit about my audience research and some of the elements i would include in my products.

(see journal for presentation)

Monday 30th March

Today i started working on my audience research. I collected all my questionnaire results which i made for the audience, so i could be more informed on their likes and dislikes which will help me produce my work.

I summed up the results and found out what will be successful and unsuccessful with my audience.
From both my questionnaires I found out that the most effective/most popular form of advertising is television advertising and people would like to see more television sixth form adverts. I will therefore try and make a successful television advertisement.
The results show that I should make the advertisements equally informative and entertaining.
The least effective form of advertising for sixth form/colleges was radio because there either weren’t any for the colleges the audience were looking at or because they were not visual so didn’t get there attention well enough. So if I was to make a radio advertisement I would need to make sure I catch the audience’s attention by using upbeat music, catchy jingle and strong friendly voices.
From the audiences opinions I need to make sure I include, colour, images, liveliness, upbeat, music, fun, entertainment and information in order to make a successful advertisement.
I also found that a lot of the college/ sixth form advertisements are leaflets or websites. These were the ones which most people had looked at because they were the most available forms of advertising and do include a lot of information however the audience would like to see more interesting forms of advertising which will entertain them more such as television adverts.

I held a focus group with some sixthformers both sexes as i though this was a good audience as they had experienced looking at college advertisments so they could tell what worked well and what didn't. In the focus group we talked about how effective the different forms of advertising were. Most people agreed that Television/DVD is an effective form of advertising because it is visual, entertaining, and informative and includes music. The members of the group all agreed that when they were looking at advertisements they would have liked to see more television adverts.
We agreed that leaflets are useful and informative but this is maybe more for the parents as it doesn’t appeal as much to the students as they want something more entertaining. Images and colour and informal writing is important for this to keep it appealing and attractive.
Radio advertising was also another form that was quite popular because radio is a type of media that is used quite a lot in different places such as in cars, homes, work so this is a good way of getting the audiences attention. Also we agreed the jingles are catchy and even though they may be cheesy they stick in peoples heads and make the atmosphere seems more fun and friendly rather then too serious.
We also agreed that we have to balance out the information and the entertainment so that I have advertisements that are entertaining and appeal to the audience but also tell them about the college and courses as this is very important.

I think the focus group was very useful because I got opinions from different people so now I have a better idea of what people would like to see in the advertisements.
If I could improve the focus group I would have included some year 11’s to see what they would like to see in the adverts as it is aimed at a year 11 audience.
